“Rooted in Jesus”
The Reverend Dr. Leslie J. Lovett
25 “These things I have spoken to you while being present with you. 26 But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you. 27 Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”
Mary and Joseph were on a divine mission. Jesus knew what he was getting ready to get in to. Jesus came for a purpose which is, the peace that you have, the world didn’t give it to you and the world can’t take it away.
Peace is a state of security. Many people don’t have that kind of peace. The Bible says that Jesus is the Prince of Peace. Jesus told his disciples, do not be afraid; do not be troubled, but be rooted in him. When we don’t know how things will turn out, we become fearful, but if we are rooted in Jesus, we have that peace knowing that everything will be all right.
Jesus is no longer in the cradle nor is he on the cross, but he should be living in our hearts. Hope, Love, Joy, and Peace are rooted in Jesus, but you have nothing if you don’t have Jesus. All the money in the world will not give you that peace.
Think of the song “When peace like a river. . .It is well with my soul”. The hymn writer found peace in Jesus which is why he could write that song even back in the early 1800s. If you read the words of that song carefully, you will see that he had that peace in Jesus. The world tries to give you a certain amount of peace with titles and the like, but titles do not give you peace. Only Jesus can give you peace.
Jesus said, “Peace I leave with you.” If you are rooted in Christ Jesus, you have security. How many of you realize that when you’re trying to figure out a problem, God has already worked out the solution. Peter denied Jesus three times. Judas even tried to give back the money. Neither of them was secure enough to stand up and do what was right and let God’s plan work out.
If you ever lose respect for or lose trust in someone, it takes a long time to get it back. Many times you see people who are always happy. It’s because they are rooted in Jesus. They do not let the issues of the world get them down. Peace is a state of security. When people are secure in themselves, they’re not concerned with how fancy their clothes are or what you think about them. When people are secure in themselves, they can do what Jesus said, “Love those who despitefully use you. Feed them. Pray for them.”
When you’re secure in Christ Jesus, having lost a loved one many years ago, especially around this time of the year should not depress you. Let it go and remember all the good times you shared. Being rooted in Jesus is the way to handle that. Never, ever let anyone rob you of your peace.
Always remember who you are because the devil will try you. With God, you’re able to walk down that fiery road and still have that peace that keeps you grounded knowing that God has already worked out the solution. When you’re secure in Christ, God will make your enemies your foot stool. Don’t let anyone uproot you from Jesus. No matter how they talk about you, no matter what they call you, keep your peace in Jesus. They lied on Jesus; they’ll lie on you.
